New York Skyscrapers: One Hundred Years of High-Rises :
a very interesting site on the skyscrapers of New york. Lists over 185 major buildings and their architects, alphabetically and by period or style. Also shows some beautiful webcam skylines.

Daniel’s Manhattan architecture site

This website offers interesting architectural descriptions of most of New York’s well-known skyscrapers, bridges and apartment buildings, and hyperlinks them to other useful sites.

The section “Modern Milestones” discusses Lever House and Mies van der Rohe’s Seagram Building; the section “Bridges” features Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge (the latter with a photo walking tour). The section ‘Old Favorites’ , includes the New York classics.

This website has an alphabetical listing of the major buildings, their style and architects, and offers a number of virtual tours, including one devoted to the early skycrapers of Chicago. The site also offers a useful Style Guide to the various architectural styles

World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893
This special collection, hosted by the Illinois Institute of Technology, provides information on and numerous pictures of the 1893 Chicago World Exposition. The site offers a link to a similar collection of the Chicago Historical Society.
