American Music

General Resources

Allmusic: this treasure hoard of music information can be searched in several categories: artists/groups, albums, songs, styles, and labels. Each of the styles, from country to rap, has a variety of subcategories. Thus, Jazz offers a menu of Swing, Bop, Cool, Free Jazz, Fusion, Hard Bop, Latin Jazz, Classic Jazz, and Soul Jazz. Headnotes provide concise introductions to styles and artists, and the album reviews are interesting and well written.

American Music Resource: very complete in its encyclopedic information, but the layout looks rather dated (1996) and a number of links are no longer working. An update has been announced.
