May 3, 'Reinventing the Transatlantic Community'

 

It is our pleasure to invite you to a talk, followed by discussion, by
Dr. Ronald D. Asmus.



Dr. Asmus will talk about

“Reinventing the Transatlantic Community?”



The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the
Belpaire room (1st floor) of the Lessius Hogeschool, St. Andriesstraat 2,
2000 Antwerpen.

Dr. Ronald D. Asmus is Executive Director of the Transatlantic Center/
German Marshall Fund of the United States (Brussels).

During President Clinton's second term Dr. Asmus was the Deputy
Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs. In this capacity he advised
the U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright a.o. on European
security issues. In the early nineties, he was one of the first advocates and
architects of NATO-enlargement and as such involved in the negotiations
that led to the enlargement of the alliance in Central Europe as well
as the establishment of the NATO-Russia Founding Act.

One of his most important recent publications is “Opening NATO’s
Door. How the Alliance remade itself for a New Era” (Columbia
University Press, New York 2002).
