Broadcast Media

  • National Public Radio is, as its name suggests, nationwide and publicly funded (not paid for by advertisers). Mostly talk-radio, NPR stations offer a variety of programs on everything from current issues and cultural happenings to investment/market analysis to "Car Talk", a show where 2 goofy mechanic brothers take calls from motorists nationwide and share their technical expertise while entertaining listeners.

  • PBS is a public television broadcast station that is available nationwide. Much of the programming is educational in focus, but PBS is known for its consistently high-quality programs.

Websites

  • About.com's Current Events collects top stories and issues in a somewhat commercialized and overwhelming, yet useful, format.
